VICTORIA SPORT DEFIBRILLATOR GRANTS

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring the safety of athletes, club members, and spectators across the state.

At AED Authority, we are committed to making lifesaving defibrillators accessible to sports organisations across Victoria. Sudden cardiac arrest can strike without warning, and immediate access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is critical in saving lives, particularly in high-activity environments like sports clubs and facilities. The Victorian government offers financial support to help clubs and organisations which can go towards securing these vital devices.

THE COUNTRY FOOTBALL AND NETBALL PROGRAM

Delivered in partnership with AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria, this program has been instrumental in enhancing the safety and infrastructure of football and netball clubs across rural, regional, and outer metropolitan Victoria.

While the latest round of funding is now closed, it remains crucial for clubs and LGAs to prioritise safety and preparedness in ongoing and future projects.

Local Government Authorities (LGAs) are encouraged to continue identifying priority projects that incorporate essential safety equipment—such as Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)—as part of any facility upgrades.

If your club is planning improvements, now is the perfect time to consider including an AED in your plans. Though applications are currently closed, clubs can still engage with their LGA to express interest in future opportunities and ensure AEDs are part of their broader safety strategy.

For more information, visit the Sport Victoria website or contact us to discuss how AEDs can support your club’s duty of care.

LGAs are encouraged to work with clubs and associations to identify priority projects that incorporate essential safety equipment, like AEDs, as part of the facility upgrades.

To apply, LGAs must submit their applications online, following a discussion with their Sport and Recreation Victoria representative. Clubs interested in having an AED included in their upgrade should contact their LGA to express interest and collaborate on an application.

For more details, visit the Sport Victoria website.

Sporting Club Grants Program

The Sporting Club Grants Program has been a valuable resource for grassroots clubs, helping to break down barriers to participation, support safer sporting environments, and build stronger local communities.

While this grant round is now closed, the need for vital safety equipment—like Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)—remains essential.

Clubs are encouraged to continue investing in on-site safety and preparedness. AEDs play a critical role in protecting players, volunteers, and spectators during sudden cardiac emergencies and should remain a priority in any future planning or funding applications.

Stay connected with us for updates on upcoming grant opportunities. In the meantime, we’re here to help you choose the right defibrillator and ensure your club remains safe and ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA), AEDs and more.

What is Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)?

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a medical emergency where the heart suddenly stops beating, causing a loss of blood flow to the brain and organs. It can happen unexpectedly to anyone, anywhere, and at any time. Immediate intervention is crucial for survival.

What is an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)?

An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable medical device that saves lives by delivering a controlled electric shock to the heart. In case of a sudden cardiac arrest, the patient’s heart rhythm needs to be reset quickly, which can only be done through defibrillation using an AED. While starting immediate CPR is essential, it alone is not sufficient to reset the heart rhythm. An AED will deliver a controlled electric shock to get the heart beating normally again.

Why is an AED important for survival?

In the event of a sudden cardiac arrest, every minute without defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by up to 10%. Quick access to an AED can significantly increase the chances of survival.

Is an AED safe and easy to use?

Absolutely! AEDs are user-friendly and safe to operate. Our range is designed for public access and requires no specialised training. Once activated, AEDs guide the user step-by-step until emergency services arrive, with simple graphics and clear voice commands making them easy for anyone to use. Using an AED poses no risk—you cannot harm the person, be harmed, or be held liable.

Good Samaritan laws protect those who assist in emergencies.

Do I need training to use a defibrillator?

Defibrillators are designed for use by anyone, requiring no prior training. They provide clear visual and verbal instructions to guide you through each step. While each defibrillator model may vary slightly, it’s beneficial to familiarise yourself with your chosen AED. Our learning hub resources section includes demonstration videos for all the devices we offer.

How can AED Authority help with grant applications?

AED Authority provides expert guidance throughout the grant application process, assists in selecting the ideal AED, and offers comprehensive support for installation and maintenance.
